The Ultimate Spring-Cleaning Guide: Simple, Natural Ways to Refresh Your Home
A faith-filled, intentional approach to creating a clean, peaceful home for the spring season
There’s something about spring that invites us to begin again. But if you are anything like me, it can also feel very overwhelming with knowing where to start.
As the days grow longer and the sunlight pours through our windows, it gently reveals the spaces we’ve neglected during the winter months. But spring-cleaning isn’t just about dusting shelves or organizing closets; it’s about creating a home that feels peaceful, life-giving, and ready for a new season.
Recently, several readers have asked questions about spring-cleaning and how to tackle this homemaking task with ease instead of the anxiety and stress it can often bring with busy lives and not knowing where to start.
By caring for our homes in this way, it allows us to better serve our families, create space for rest, and cultivate an environment where faith and intentional living can flourish.
Why Spring-Cleaning Matters
Spring-cleaning gives us the opportunity to reset, not just physically, but mentally and spiritually too. A clean home often leads to a clearer mind and a more restful heart.
Instead of approaching it as a task that just needs to be done, think of it as a way to create more meaning within the home by taking care of the things you have. You don’t have to do everything in one day. Start small, stay consistent, and let it be something you enjoy rather than rushing through it.
My Simple Spring-Cleaning Routine
Rather than tackling everything at once (although, I do like to have at least one solid day monthly where I do a deep monthly clean around the house), I like to break my cleaning into manageable sections.
To make each of these steps easier and more enjoyable, I’ve put together a free downloadable spring-cleaning checklist that you can follow along with. Check it out here: Spring-Cleaning and Decluttering Lists
1.First is to Declutter
For this step remove anything that no longer serves your home or family. This stage is very important, and this step is one that takes time and intentionality. Focus on the spots that are the busiest in your home, and take some time to ask yourself, “is this necessary, does it have a purpose in this space, or will it be an item of stress?”
For me, the fridge, pantry, hallways, and bathroom storage are my “pain points” in my home. Specifically, when I declutter my fridge, I go through expired foods, get rid of leftover containers, and organize the items that are left in there. Then, later when I get to step three of refreshing my space, I like to go to local places that have natural, preservative-free foods to restock my fridge and pantry.
One place I love to go to when I have time to go for a little drive and get some of these items, I love to visit Serenity Farm Bread in Leslie, AR. Serenity Farm Bread has been making organic, non-GMO sourdough bread for over 30-years. The company also sells local items like jams, coffee, baking mixes, beef, pork, chicken, heirloom seeds, and much more. My friend Olivia Moss writes about restaurants in small towns with unique testimonies and selling points, and recently, she discussed Serenity Farm Bread in her recent blog. Check it out here.
2.Second is to Deep Clean
For step two focus on overlooked areas like baseboards, windows, behind and underneath appliances, and under furniture. This step is often one that seems daunting and seems to take the longest, but once it is done, your space will feel so much cleaner and refreshed. I included a Spring-Cleaning and Decluterring List that may make this task seem a little less daunting to tackle.
3.And Lastly is to Refresh
This step is so fun and includes adding simple touches like fresh linens, open windows, or a bouquet of flowers. As a woman who loves to have a neat and inspirational home, I love to incorporate items to my home that inspire creativity and joy. Items like new towels, sheets, throws, pillows, a bouquet of flowers, or even simply lighting a candle or opening the windows, creates the essence of refreshing the space after it has been clean.
A blogging page that I gain quite a bit of inspiration from when I need to clean and refresh my space is called Woman Around Town. In one of the blog posts, they wrote about the benefits of transforming your space with a simple bouquet of flowers in your home. The blog post said that “One of the many advantages of indoor flowers is that they bring a touch of nature into your home.” and “Research has shown that homes with flowers reduce stress, foster good energy, and even improve memory.” Flowers are beautiful in nature, but they can also be used to brighten a home in the spring and summer seasons.
By tackling your spring-cleaning in this way, it may keep the process from feeling overwhelmed and help you stay motivated.

Creating a Peaceful Atmosphere
Spring-cleaning isn’t just about removing dirt; it’s about inviting peace into your home.
Light a candle, open your windows, and play soft music or worship in the background while you clean. These small details can turn ordinary tasks into something meaningful and even enjoyable.
In a recent comment about why it is so important that we live intentionally is so that when we care for our homes and beings with intention, we create a space that reflects warmth, hospitality, and rest for not only ourselves but those in the home and those who enter it as well.
A Gentle Reminder
Your home doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.
Give yourself grace in this process. Whether you finish in a day or over a few weeks, what matters most is the heart behind it. A home filled with love, care, and intention will always be enough.
